A comfortable place to begin

You don’t need every answer before we talk.

You may be thinking, “We don’t need this much space,” or “My parents have reached the point where it’s unsafe to remain at home.” Either way, I’ll meet you where you are.

For your own next chapter

If maintaining a large house feels tiring, we can talk about a home that suits life now, what you want to keep, and how to move without giving up control.

For a parent’s next move

If you are helping a parent, I can help your family compare options, manage the family home, and understand what happens next.

Independent guidance

My recommendations aren’t tied to a referral fee.

Some senior living communities pay referral fees when someone moves in. I don’t accept those fees. When we explore communities together, I focus on your needs, preferences, and budget.

A plan for the whole move

I’ll help you put the next steps in order.

When there are decisions about care, finances, family, belongings, and a home sale, a clear order makes the process feel more manageable.

  1. Understand your situation and the financial questions.

We will discuss the home, your priorities, timing, and where a financial planner or elder law attorney can help.

  2. Explore the next place together.

I can help you compare smaller homes, active adult communities, or senior living options based on your family’s needs.

  3. Make a plan for belongings.

We can coordinate appropriate help with sorting, estate sales, and deciding what comes along.

  4. Prepare the home thoughtfully.

I will recommend sensible preparation based on likely value and your circumstances, without assuming every repair is worthwhile.

  5. Coordinate the sale and the move.

I will work toward timing that reduces disruption, while keeping you informed as each detail takes shape.

Support beyond the listing

You won’t have to coordinate every part alone.

I can manage sensible home preparation, connect you with the right professionals, tour communities with you, and keep your family informed about what is happening and what comes next.

“My right sizing and transition support comes at no additional cost alongside my real estate service.”

Third-party services, repairs, moving expenses, and senior living costs are separate.

Real situations, practical help

Every family’s move has different pieces.

These past situations show how I adapt the plan. They are not promises of future results.

01

Finding suitable care and preparing the home

I toured several communities with an elderly couple and their family to find care that fit their needs. I then coordinated painting, window replacement, landscaping, and the home sale.

02

Coordinating a move into a smaller home

I helped a couple move into a new home in a 55-plus community and coordinated the sale so they moved once. When a title issue appeared one hour before closing, I helped get it resolved.

03

A new plan after six months without offers

A senior couple’s home had received few showings and no offers. I arranged improvements, expanded the marketing, and the home sold within 30 days of the new approach.

Handling repairs from a distance

After an inspection identified windows that needed replacement, I coordinated the order and installation after the sellers moved out of state and before the buyers moved in.

About Dave

I’ve helped my own parents through this decision.

Around the time I became a Realtor, my parents could no longer safely remain in their home. My siblings and I researched assisted living, and I took responsibility for preparing and selling the family home.

Even in a close family, the process was confusing and frightening. My father passed away not long after the sale. His final words to me expressed pride and gratitude for how I handled it.

That experience shaped this work. I help other families partly to honor my parents. I am a senior myself, so I understand why clear explanations, patience, and respect for your choices matter.

A seasoned perspective

Part of Hoover

Active in senior events, local redevelopment work, and the business community.

I grew up in a family that valued honesty, care for others, and hard work. Those values still guide how I communicate, negotiate, and tell a family the truth, even when it is not the answer they hoped to hear.

Close to the communities you know

A local perspective on your next chapter.

I stay close to what is changing in our area, from housing choices to the businesses and services families rely on.

My work takes me throughout Hoover, Birmingham, McCalla, Alabaster, Helena, and Chelsea. I know local communities such as Lake Wilborn, Stadium Trace, and Abingdon by the River. Each is simply one part of the broader picture we can consider together.

My relationships with builders, contractors, inspectors, title attorneys, mortgage professionals, and investor buyers help me find practical answers. Community involvement may also make me aware of off-market possibilities, though availability is never guaranteed.

I publish The Hoover Home Report each month to stay engaged with local market statistics, new businesses, senior living information, and community events.
